Planning of technical rail equipment at the Port of Hamburg – New Kattwyk railway bridge

2015 – ongoing, HPA Hamburg Port Authority

Line 1253 on the Hamburger Hafenbahn port railway between Hohe Schaar station and Hausbruch station crosses the Süderelbe with a combined road and railway lift bridge. Road and rail traffic make use of the same traffic area.

In order to reduce the pressure on the existing Kattwyk Bridge, separate rail and road traffic and increase the capacity of both modes of transport, the intention is for a new double-track lift bridge for rail traffic to be built to the north of the existing lift bridge. The existing Kattwyk Bridge is then provided exclusively for road traffic.

The eastern approach to the New Kattwyk rail bridge will be expanded to include two tracks. Both bridge tracks will then merge again to the west of the Süderelbe. From there, the line then runs along a single track to Hausbruch station. Due to the work on relocating and expanding the eastern siding, the track systems on the port railway and the sidings and train formation tracks owned by the company Oiltanking located to the north of the line must also be relocated.

SIGNON has been planning the technical rail equipment for the New Kattwyk Bridge project since 2015 and has provided the following services to date:

  • Inspection and revision of design planning
    • Overhead line systems
    • Point heating systems
    • Track field lighting
    • Control and safety technology
    • Telecommunications systems
  • Implementation planning and preparation of award
    • Track field lighting
